A number of students possessing educational qualifications issued abroad find that they are only entitled to study in Germany if they successfully complete a so-called Assessment Exam (Feststellungsprüfung) before attending a college or university. Some applicants must pass the Studienkolleg (Foundation Course) exam. The Foundation Course takes place over two terms during which international applicants can prepare themselves for the exam. The German entrance exam for the Studienkolleg takes place twice a year and consists of three parts:
The test lasts 60 minutes.
Admission to a study program – depending on the discipline and the number of applicants – the applicant has to achieve a total score of between 60 and 85 per cent. Normally, the Studienkolleg in Munich has more applicants than places. Experience has shown that many applicants underestimate this test and many fail it. Level B2 is officially required to apply for the exam, but actually Level C1 or above is required to pass it. Thorough preparation, specific training and being fully acquainted with the examination format are important prerequisites for passing the test. On our preparation courses, the participants are fully prepared for taking the exam through completing selected exercises, focusing on specific weaknesses, learning vocabulary relevant to the exam, taking several mock exams under test conditions and practising how to manage time effectively. All this is why those who have participated on ASL´s preparation courses usually achieve the best results.
